Debke is a group line dance that is prominent in Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Iraq. Debke (pronounced dab-keh meaning "stamping of the feet"). This popular folkloric dance is even common to certain people of Oriental and European origins. It can be performed at festivals, celebrations, especially weddings or even as a "protection" in time of war. Debke is based on synchronized foot stomping in which the dancers stand either in a straight line, in an arch, or in a circle and is performed in a group. Men, women, children, the young, the old all are welcomed to dance and no previous experience is necessary! Please bring (if possible hard soled shoes), a water bottle, an open heart and a hand towel, as you will sweat to upbeat Debke music and have lots of fun!
